Build Your Backrooms Getting Started

Your first hour: claim a plot, lay hallways, place a monster, and start earning from visitors.

Getting Started

Build Your Backrooms by Wind Sun Moon [WSM] turns the backrooms fantasy into a builder: you own a slice of yellow hallways, expand it into a maze, stock it with monsters, and earn cash when other Roblox players wander in and get caught. The game released June 22, 2026, runs on the official Roblox place (134363641369914), and already sees heavy traffic with around two million visits. This guide covers your first session from launch to a maze that earns while you learn the rest of the wiki.

You do not need prior backrooms lore knowledge — only basic Roblox movement. Servers hold up to six players, so you can invite friends to test exits or explore together.

What you are trying to accomplish

The long-term goal is simple: bigger maze + stronger monsters = more cash, including while offline. The short-term goal in hour one is:

  1. Finish the tutorial and unlock build tools.
  2. Connect enough hallways that visitors cannot walk straight out.
  3. Place at least one monster on a high-traffic corner.
  4. Bank your first catches and reinvest in one upgrade that matters.

Everything else — codes, rare buildings, explore mode — stacks on top of that loop. See How to Earn Cash once your first monster pays out.

Joining the game

Open the experience from Roblox search or use the official link on the wiki home page. Pick any public server unless you are joining friends through Roblox’s invite flow. On first join the game loads your personal plot separately from the social lobby — you will see build UI around the edges once the intro finishes.

If Roblox asks you to allow camera or movement permissions on mobile, accept them now; Controls lists the exact buttons later.

Tutorial walkthrough

Wind Sun Moon [WSM] uses a guided intro to teach three ideas: place tiles, spawn visitors, and collect cash from catches. Move through every highlighted prompt before skipping — skipped steps sometimes leave build buttons locked.

Typical tutorial beats:

  • Claim your plot — You receive a starter floor plate and a small cash balance.
  • Place hallways — Drag or tap prefab pieces from the build menu. Connect doors so the path is not one straight line.
  • Open to visitors — Toggle the setting that lets explore-queue players enter (wording may say “Open,” “Publish,” or show a visitor icon).
  • Deploy a monster — Choose the free or cheapest catcher and place it where two hallways meet.
  • Collect reward — When the tutorial visitor gets caught, tap the cash popup or watch the balance tick up.

After the script ends, you keep everything you built. Do not delete tutorial walls until you have replacements — empty plots earn nothing.

Your first maze layout

You do not need a masterpiece on day one. You need minimum viable confusion:

  • Add at least one 90-degree turn so runners cannot see the exit from the entrance.
  • Use a dead end branch that forces backtracking — monsters catch players who reverse late.
  • Keep the exit reachable but not obvious; fake doors or longer loops come later in How to Build a Maze.

Spend only starter cash here. Expensive decor does not increase catch rate until you understand visitor pathing.

First monster and first upgrade

The tutorial monster is weak but proves the loop. After two or three real visitor catches:

  • Upgrade monster damage or speed if the shop offers stat tiers, or
  • Buy a second monster for another choke point, or
  • Extend hallway count so visitors stay inside longer.

Avoid buying cosmetic lights first. Income upgrades beat aesthetics until your cash per minute plateaus — details in How to Catch Players.

Exploring and social play

Build Your Backrooms is online today: you can leave your plot and visit other mazes. Use explore mode to see how top plots hide exits and chain rooms. Watch where you get lost — that is where their monsters sit.

Bring up to five friends into a six-player server and race through a neighbor’s maze. You learn movement quirks that AI visitors also hit, which informs your own Controls practice.

Offline earnings preview

Monsters keep working when you log off. You do not need to stay in-game 24/7 for progress. The exact idle timer and cap depend on your monster tier and any building bonuses — Offline Earnings breaks down the math. For now, just log out once after placing a monster so the idle clock starts.

Optional boosts: codes and updates

No promo code is required to start. When Wind Sun Moon [WSM] posts codes, redeem them through Codes Hub and How to Redeem Codes. At publish time no codes are verified active — check the developer’s Roblox group for future drops.

Follow Updates Hub after patches so you know when new room types or monsters change the starter strategy.

First-day checklist

Use this before closing session one:

  • Tutorial complete; build menu fully unlocked
  • Maze has turns, not a straight corridor
  • At least one monster placed on a corner or T-junction
  • Plot open to visitors or explore traffic
  • First cash reinvested in income, not cosmetics
  • Controls bookmarked for your platform
  • Visited one other maze for layout ideas
